Rape. It’s not your fault.
What to Do
- Don't shower, bathe, wash, or douche. You do not want to wash away any evidence that could be used against your attacker in court.
- Call the police and tell them what happened. If you are afraid to call the police, call your local rape crisis center.
- A medical professional or trained technician may look for and take samples of the rapist's hair, skin, nails, or bodily fluids from your clothes or body. The medical professional may run several tests to check your body for sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy, and/or drugs that your attacker may have given you. You will have the option to prevent or treat any medical issues (for example, emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy). You have the right to say no to exams, treatments, etc.
