Genital Warts
- Genital Warts are caused by a virus called HPV (human papilloma virus).
- About 40 types of HPV can infect the genital area — the vulva, vagina, cervix, rectum, anus, penis, or scrotum.
- Genital warts are small, often painless bumps in or around these areas.
- HPV is spread by having unprotected (and sometimes even protected) vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Other kinds of skin-to-skin contact, including sex play, such as body rubbing, may also spread HPV.
- Even if the warts go away or are removed, the virus stays in your body and can be spread to others.\
